Caring Community Updates
January 2021
Impact
We ended 2020 on a positive note with the successful completion of our MC Gives fundraising campaign, raising over $58,743 for our Greatest Needs Fund. Donations made through this campaign were also eligible for a generous match, and we look forward to announcing our final total and matching gift amount next month. The Greatest Needs Fund is our most nimble and can be activated quickly to meet the most urgent needs of the healthcare system when facing situations like COVID-19. For example, early on in the pandemic, funds were used to provide much needed PPE to local community partner organizations who were also serving the public, including Boys and Girls Club, Meals on Wheels, Dorothy’s Place, Monterey-Salinas Transit, Alliance on Aging, and several others.
We are happy to announce the Physician Giving Campaign raised $58,640 in 2020 from our generous donors. As we begin the new year, we are grateful for the support from our physicians, and to Dr. David Ramos and Dr. Orlando Rodriguez for leading the campaign and championing the Foundation.
Looking ahead, we anticipate that 2021 will be a truly defining year for us as a Foundation, as a healthcare system, and as a community. Now more than ever, we look forward to the healthy impact that we will be able to create together with you, our donor family, to ensure that the healthcare system can continue to provide the best care possible for our patients throughout the Salinas Valley and the surrounding communities. Thank you for being a part of that family.
Announcements
The Healthcare System recently received both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and immediately began vaccinating frontline staff. As we wait for the vaccine to become more widely available, it is important that we remain vigilant, follow CDC and local health department guidelines, and do our part to stay safe.
Salinas Valley Health provides a great podcast that has spent a lot of time focused on COVID-19 this year, and I’d encourage you to subscribe and take a listen. Their most recent episode is “2020: Salinas Valley Health and COVID-19. A Year in Review” and features our own Board Chair, Carla Spencer, as she speaks with Salinas Valley Health President and CEO, Pete Delgado, about the impact COVID-19 has had on the healthcare system this year. You can find this podcast and the rest of the series here: https://svmh.communitycovidinfo.com/svmhs-information/svmhs-podcast-ask-the-experts/
Finally, we’d also like to share again the Healthcare System’s comprehensive COVID-19 resource page at https://svmh.communitycovidinfo.com should you desire more information.
