People hoping to advance their career or explore rewarding volunteer opportunities in health care are invited to attend an Open House at Salinas Valley Health. The event takes place on Saturday, October 28 with both morning and afternoon options to explore and discover ways to build upon your resume or enrich your life by giving back to your community.
“This is a unique opportunity to learn about the many programs offered at Salinas Valley Health,” says Shannon Graham, Director of Volunteer and Health Career Services. “Volunteers are a revered and important part of our organization and there’s such a variety of roles, I truly feel there’s something for everyone.”
In addition to meaningful ways of donating ones time and talent to support patient care and community wellness, Salinas Valley Health also offers numerous programs to support people with an interest in healthcare and advancing their careers in the field. One of those opportunities for people age 18 and older is COPE Health Scholars. The health scholars at Salinas Valley Health receive formal training and hands-on experience in patient care.
“The nursing and clinical teams at Salinas Valley Health love mentoring people interested in patient care,” says Michelle McCarty, COPE Health Solutions Program Manager. “We have a robust program and only one of its kind on the Central Coast. We’ll have some of our health scholars at the Open House to share their firsthand experiences with anyone who is interested in learning more.”
Depending on the desired weekly time commitment, the Health Scholars program at Salinas Valley Health offers three, six and nine-month tracks as scholars work toward the 280 clinical hours required to graduate from the program. Scholars receive a certificate of completion from the Keck Graduate Institute in Patient Experience and Pre-Licensed Clinical Care. Volunteer opportunities at Salinas Valley Health include community outreach, guest services, patient support, gift shop, Mended Hearts and pet therapy to name a few.
