Salinas Valley Health has earned its eighth consecutive “A” Hospital Safety grade from the national consumer reporting organization, The Leapfrog Group. The national nonprofit upholding the standards of patient safety released the Spring 2023 report card today and praised Salinas Valley Health for quality performance.
“Despite our many achievements, we never take high marks in patient safety and quality for granted,” says Pete Delgado, president/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “We are proud of the teamwork and focus that goes into consistently earning an ‘A’ grade. The report provides unbiased evidence of our commitment to Salinas Valley Health patients and their families."
The Leapfrog Group grades range from ‘A’ to ‘F’ and signify achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from errors, injuries and infections. The new grades are based on more than 30 national performance measures and the systems hospitals have in place to protect patients.
“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But this hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice a year, in the spring and fall.
