While summer camp is a childhood tradition for many families, for children with asthma, it can present significant concerns. Salinas Valley Health is proud to host Asthma Camp, which has opened doors of opportunity for hundreds of local families since it began in 1986. The Mark Velcoff, MD, Asthma Camp provides a fun health education setting for participants, and peace of mind for parents. The day campers, aged six to twelve years, enjoy a week full of learning paired with great events and leave with the tools they need to lead healthy, active lives.
Asthma is leading cause of chronic illness among children under 18 and one of the main reasons they miss school. By learning how to manage their condition more effectively, children enjoy a better educational environment, improved self-confidence and greater future opportunities.
The 38th annual Asthma Camp will be held July 31 through August 4, 2023, at Monterey Park Elementary School in Salinas. Pre- and post-camp childcare is available. Funded by donations to the Salinas Valley Health Foundation through our Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Program, the camp has only a $10 registration fee. Visit our website for details.
The young campers impress us each year with significant growth in being proactive about their own healthcare. The program provides invaluable lessons that change lives – for children, and for their parents. Asthma Camp is an investment to help our community rise in good health that we are honored to support.
Be safe and be well.
