July 31, 2023 - This year's Salinas Valley Health Mark Velcoff, MD Asthma Camp is packed full of learning and summer fun for a record number of campers. The unique camp experience is made possible by Salinas Valley Health, Salinas Valley Health Foundation and Children's Miracle Network. 

The annual tradition attracted nearly 50 kids, ages 6 through 12, with mild to severe asthma. The program gives the young people a chance to enjoy a wide range of activities in a safe, fun and medically supervised environment. Dr. Steven Prager serves as medical camp director and respiratory therapists from Salinas Valley Health organize the learning plans and facilitate the outdoor activities. 

Camp adventures include swimming, hiking, soccer, and Camp Olympics. In addition to structured learning plans about asthma, triggers, medications and relaxation, there are popular activities such as Ranger Tammy and her snake as well as a Family Night featuring food trucks, an ice cream social and movie. Special guests include 49er great, lineman Chris Dalman, U.S. Olympian softball pitcher Monica Abbott, and members of Monterey Bay FC. 

The camp kicked off today and will conclude with a graduation attended by parents on Friday at Monterey Park Elementary School in Salinas.
