January 12, 2023 – Keen observation and recollection skills earned a nurse at Salinas Valley Health the prestigious DAISY Award. When a patient came into the medical center exhibiting signs of COPD, Sheryll Randazzo, RN quickly recognized that the patient was coming from a rehab facility with recent cases of Influenza A. Immediate testing confirmed Sheryll’s suspicions and the patient was able to receive the treatment she needed without delay.
The patient’s daughter was very impressed with Sheryll’s expert observation and the care plan to treat her mother. The family wanted the organization to be aware of the value and comfort Sheryll provided. The praise resulted in Sheryll’s DAISY nomination and selection as a DAISY Award recipient.
Sheryll Randazzo, RN joined Salinas Valley Health in September 2016 and has been working in Telemetry since 2021. During the DAISY Award ceremony, Sheryll shared that she had multiple job offers when she began her nursing career and Salinas Valley Memorial was her top choice. Sheryll’s husband also works as a nurse at Salinas Valley Health.
In addition to Sheryll, two other nurses were honored for receiving DIASY Award nominations - Laura Esparza, RN in Diagnostic Imaging and Annie Sebolino RN III in the Observation Care Unit.
Every month, Salinas Valley Memorial recognizes two extraordinary employees, one with a DAISY Award (for nurses) and another with a STAR Award (for all staff). STAR stands for the Salinas Valley Health values of Support, Teamwork, Accountability and Respect. Nominations can be submitted by patients, visitors and staff. Nomination forms and drop boxes are located throughout the medical center and online. To learn more about the awards visit Nurse Recognition | Salinas Valley Health.
