Salinas Valley Health Nurse Receives DAISY Award

Salinas Valley Health has recognized Jennifer Lachica, BSN, RN, with a DAISY Award for the exceptional and compassionate care she provides patients. Salinas Valley Health participates in the national DAISY Award program, which celebrates compassionate and skillful nursing care.

Jennifer is a registered nurse in the Emergency Department and received the award in a surprise ceremony on Tuesday at the medical center. This is Jennifer’s first nomination and first DAISY Award. The nomination was submitted by Jesus Hernandez, a Patient Experience Coordinator.

“A patient returned to the ER after being discharged because he was having problems with his prescription and insurance,” said Jesus Hernandez, Patient Experience Coordinator. “Jen was made aware of his problem and called the pharmacy and was able to fix the problem he was having with the prescription and made sure it was covered under his insurance with no copay. The patient is currently homeless and appreciated all Jennifer did for him.”

"The ER is a busy place and it's important to address people's emergency medical needs quickly. Our nurses also know personal interactions are essential to delivering outstanding care,” says Darlene Vaughan, BSN, RN, Director, Emergency Services. “Jennifer goes above and beyond when she sees a patient may need extra reassurance or resources. Salinas Valley Health is fortunate to have her as part of the team."

Four other exceptional nurses received DAISY Award nominations in July including Anthony Pollard-Gensberg, RN, Cosimo Randazzo, RN, Lorenzo Reyna, RN, and Max Rivera-Orozco, RN. Every month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an outstanding employee with a DAISY Award (for nurses) or a STAR Award (for all staff). Nominations can be submitted by patients, visitors and staff.
