July 20, 2022 – A unique summer camp experience for 4th -6th grade students is underway at Salinas Valley Health. Medical Adventure Camp has 14 campers enrolled in this year’s two-week program designed to introduce young people to the field of healthcare.
Medical Adventure Camp was established at Salinas Valley Memorial Health in 2001 to help introduce participants to medicine and health careers in a fun camp format. Participants learn about a variety of health-related topics in interactive classes and activities. Student volunteers help guide the campers, while hospital staff and physicians present the lessons and activities.
The 2022 camp launched Monday, July 18 and will wrap-up on Friday, July 29th after an all-day field trip on Thursday to San Jose’s Tech Museum of Innovation. Medical Adventure Camp is exactly what its name implies with daily engaging activities such as behind the scene tours at the hospital and clinic locations including the Sleep Medicine Center, Mobile Heath Clinic, Infection Prevention, Emergency Department and Cath Lab. In addition, each day the line-up includes lunch, physical activities, craft time, journaling and prizes.
The day camp is sponsored by the Salinas Valley Health Service League Volunteers, Children's Miracle Network, Salinas Valley Health, and individual donors. To date, over 200 adventurous youth have been able to participate. The community outreach program comes on the heels of Salinas Valley Health graduating 29 high school and college bound students from its popular Summer Health Institute.
