Salinas Valley Health Welcomes New Board Members

December 19, 2022- Salinas Valley Health has welcomed two new publicly elected members to the District Board of Directors. In November’s election, District voters selected Dr. Rolando Cabrera, Catherine Carson, RN, MPA, CPHQ, and Joel Hernandez to serve on the Salinas Valley Health Board of Directors. With Hernandez re-elected to the seat, his oath extends to a second term.

We appreciate their valuable contributions to our mission.”

Rolando Cabrera, MD representing Zone 1, is a long-time family medicine physician specializing in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. Catherine Carson, RN, MPA, CPHQ, representing Zone 4 has more than four decades experience as a registered nurse and recently retired from her position at a Bay Area health system as a medical center chief quality officer. Joel Hernandez is returning to his position representing Zone 5 and is a Community Impact Officer at Community Foundation for Monterey County.

The three Board members join Victor Rey, Zone 2 and Juan Cabrera, Zone 3. Rey and Cabrera current terms extend until December 2024. Rey is a certified health coach and licensed financial agent with Living Legacy Health and Financial Wellness. Cabrera is union representative for Teamsters Local 890.

The Board also elected members to serve specific roles on the Board and they received committee assignments. Victor Rey will continue to serve as Board President, Joel Hernandez Laguna will serve as Vice President, Dr. Rolando Cabrera as Secretary, Juan Cabrera as Treasurer and Catherine Carson, RN, MPA, CPHQ, as Assistant Treasurer.

Dr. Cabrera and Carson were sworn into office at the December 15 Board Meeting. Board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, except for the months of November and December, when meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month. Directors serve on up to three Board Sub-committees, which meet either monthly or quarterly.
