Salinas Valley Health is proud to announce that Pete Delgado, President/CEO is being recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of 2021’s Top Diversity Leaders.
Delgado joined Salinas Valley Health in April 2013 with a focus on exceptional quality care, community health and wellness and expanding health equity and diversity. Modern Healthcare Top Diversity Leaders award is an annual recognition of healthcare executives from diverse backgrounds and the organizations influencing the policy and care delivery models across the country.
“Healthcare organizations widely promote their diversity, equity and inclusion efforts when they're first announced. But it's more important to track success and make sure those initiatives deliver on the long-term results the companies and communities they serve expect,” said Modern Healthcare editor, Aurora Aguilar. “The 2021 class of Top Diversity Leaders lead the pack in healthcare. These are people and companies that exemplify walking the walk. Congratulations to all of our honorees and thank you for the hard work you do on the important issue of inclusivity.”
Victor Rey, President of the publically elected Board of Directors at Salinas Valley Health, endorsed Delgado’s nomination noting a number of unprecedented accomplishments during Delgado’s tenure as CEO showcasing his commitment to expanding access to care and spearheading culturally sensitive initiatives.
Under Delgado’s leadership, Salinas Valley Health has built a 31,000 square foot rural health clinic in the city of Gonzales; launched a Salinas Valley Health Mobile Clinic, taking free health care directly to underserved and diverse populations; facilitated a payer-blind network of more than 80 primary and specialty care clinics, expanding quality care for all; cultivated hospital partnerships to expand the only local Medicare Advantage plan, Aspire; spearheaded Blue Zones Project Monterey County focused on community health and wellness; and lead the organization as it received Magnet designation for nursing excellence, an achievement reached by only 9% of hospitals nationwide.
“Time has proven Pete to be an exceptional leader, bringing diversity, equity and inclusion to our organization and our community’s healthcare,” said Rey. “This honor as a Modern Healthcare Top Diversity Leader is well deserved.”
