The latest Ask the Experts virtual presentations Preventing and Living with Diabetes by Salinas Valley Health will address the growing diabetes epidemic and deliver valuable diabetes information to the community in English and Spanish. The two events will be featured live on the medical center's Facebook page on March 31st.
“Forty-five percent of Monterey County adults have pre-diabetes or diabetes,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “It’s critical we reach families in our community with information and tools to help prevent and manage this disease. We encourage the community to watch these free virtual presentations.”
Salinas Valley Health Clinics Diabetes & Endocrine Center medical director and endocrinologist Dr. Nicolas Kissell, MD, and registered dietitian Mirella Lopez, RD, CDE, will cover the basics of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and childhood diabetes. They will also focus on prevention, nutrition, and how to manage the disease. Those who tune in on Facebook will have their questions answered.
“Through education and lifestyle choices, we can reduce the risk for Type 2 diabetes in adults and in children,” says Nicolas Kissell, MD. “We look forward to hosting these events in both languages and providing valuable information to the community.”
The Spanish language presentation takes place at 2pm and the English language presentation takes place at 3:30pm on Wednesday, March 31st on the hospital’s Facebook page @Salinas Valley Health.
