Salinas Valley Health Welcomes New Board Members

SALINAS, CA, December 21, 2018- Salinas Valley Health welcomes 4 newly elected members to its Board of Directors. District voters elected Regina M. Gage, Juan Cabrera, Richard Turner and Norm Nelson, MD in November’s election. The new board members were sworn in at this week’s December Board meeting.

We look forward to working with them to build on the great work we are doing to advance the health and wellness of our region and provide outstanding patient care.”
Regina M. Gage representing Zone 1 is the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley. Juan Cabrera representing Zone 3 is a union representative for Teamsters Local 890. Richard Turner, Zone 4 is the Vice President of Finance at Dole Fresh Vegetables. Prior to being elected to the Board of Directors Turner served on the Salinas Valley Health Foundation Board. Norm Nelson, MD is a retired Obstetrician-Gynecologist and was a member of the Salinas Valley Health Medical Center medical staff for 34 years. Nelson represents Zone 5.
The new Board members join Victor Rey, Zone 2. Rey was recently appointed to the Board of Directors to fill a vacancy. He works in food production management and served on the Salinas Valley Health Board of Directors from 2012 to 2016. The Board also elected members to serve specific roles on the Board and received committee assignments. Rey will serve as Board President, Gage as Vice President, Nelson as Secretary, Turner as Treasurer and Cabrera as Assistant Treasurer.
Board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, except for the months of November and December, when meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month. Directors serve on up to three Board Sub-committees, which meet either monthly or quarterly. Board members receive a $100 stipend for each meeting attended with a maximum of $500 per month.
