SALINAS, CA, NOVEMBER 21, 2017- Michael Jarschke, RN is the November recipient of the DAISY Award at Salinas Valley Health. Salinas Valley Health participates in the national Daisy Award program, which celebrates compassionate and skillful nursing care. Jarschke is a Staff Nurse II in the Medical Surgery Unit.
“I had cancer as a child and appreciated the care I received,” says Michael Jarschke, RN. “I know how important compassionate care is. It is an honor to receive this recognition especially because I work with so many great nurses here who are equally deserving.”
Jarschke joined Salinas Valley Health as an Acute Dialysis Nurse in December of 2013. He began working in the Medical Surgery Unit in October of 2016. A colleague who nominated Jarschke for the DAISY Award wrote, “He goes the extra mile, he’s a great team player and has excellent beside manners.” A patient also nominated Jarschke for the recognition and shared he was so ill he thought he was going to die and that Jarschke was there to comfort him. The patient added he felt cared for and appreciated the compassion Jarschke showed him.
“Showing compassion to a patient is one of the most important things a registered nurse can do,” says Christie Gonder, RN, Chief Nursing Officer. “This is something he does every day with every patient. We are thrilled Michael is part of our dedicated team.”
Jarschke’s son Caleb joined his father when he was recognized by the publicly elected Board of Directors at its November board meeting. The following employees were also nominated for the November DAISY Award: Norma Coyazo, RN, Salvador Delahno, RN, Jennifer Hiller, RN, Jonathan Iglesia, RN, Lenora Mangone-Melendy, RN, Mary Nuki, RN, Debra Rauber, RN, and Francesca Soria, RN.
