Salinas Valley Health Certified Farmers’ Market to Kick off Friday
SALINAS, CA, May 16, 2017 - Salinas Valley Health’s Farmers’ Market kicks its 2017-2018 season on Friday, May 19th. The Certified Farmers’ Market offers fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and other items - many of them organically grown by small-scale family farmers.
“We are proud to continue offering this Certified Farmers’ Market to the community,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “It’s a great way to encourage and promote healthy eating by bringing these choices directly to our patients, families, staff and neighbors.”
The Salinas Valley is known as the Salad Bowl of the World and unlike other parts of the country, many locally grown and harvested edibles are available year round. Eating and cooking fresh produce is part of a healthy lifestyle, which can reduce the risk of illness and disease.
People who receive CalFresh benefits (food stamps) and who use their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards at the Farmers’ Market can receive bonus money toward the purchase of fruits and vegetables. The Farmers’ Market is supported and funded by Salinas Valley Health.
The Salinas Valley Health Farmers’ Market begins Friday, May 19th from 1:30pm-5:30 pm in the MRI parking lot of the hospital at the corner of Wilgart Way and East Romie Lane. Free valet parking is available in the parking garage on Wilgart Way. The Farmers Market will take place every Friday afternoon until October 20th.
People participating in the Heart & Sole race can pick up their bibs and race packages at the Salinas Valley Health Farmers’ Market on May 19th. Runners and walkers can also register for the race at the Farmers’ Market. For more information, call 831-759-1890.
