Story: Diabetes is an epidemic in Monterey County. Diabetes and prediabetes affect 57% of the population. Recognizing the threat, health care professionals have launched a countywide Diabetes Initiative to work together to reverse a frightening trend. The Initiative participants include Monterey County Health, Salinas Valley Health, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Montage Health and more.
Tuesday, March 28 is National Diabetes Alert Day. The speakers at this event will highlight the prevalence of diabetes in our community, the groundbreaking initiative and collaboration to address the problem and specific programs and resources that expand access to people who have the disease or at risk.
Patients and medical professionals will present a 20 minute program after which one on one interviews and visuals will be available to media.
