Salinas Valley Health Volunteers Celebrate the Holiday Season with Remembrance Tree

Salinas Valley Health Service League Volunteers are celebrating the holiday season with a Remembrance Tree. The Remembrance Tree is located in the Merrill Lobby waiting area of the hospital and is decorated with beautiful white angels and displayed on a rotating stand. Each angel has the name of a person who brought great joy and or continues to bring happiness to a person’s life.

“This is a beautiful and special tradition that continues to benefit many people in our community,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “The proceeds of the angel ornaments are used to purchase items that are included in the cancer comfort bags given to patients at the Cancer Resource Center. We are grateful to our dedicated volunteers for continuing this wonderful tradition.”

People purchased the angel ornaments for five dollars to honor a loved one. The angels with personalized names remain on the tree through January 3rd and are later mailed to the person who made the tribute. That person can choose to keep the ornament or gift it to someone else.

“People buy the angel ornaments in honor of someone who continues to bring joy to their lives, it can be a family member, a co-worker, a volunteer, or someone who has passed away,” says Diane Downey a Salinas Valley Health Service League Volunteer. “You feel good because you did something for someone else and patients, visitors and employees can enjoy a beautiful and unique Christmas tree throughout the holiday season.”
