Focusing on diabetes, a disease that impacts nearly half the people in the County of Monterey, Nicolas Kissell, MD, leads a team of providers to help patients manage their conditions. Dr. Kissell serves as Medical Director for the Diabetes & Endocrine Center. He is also a Principal Investigator for Clinical Research and Clinical Trials for the Diabetes Clinical Research Program at Salinas Valley Health. Through the Diabetes Clinical Research Program, Dr. Kissell collaborates with leading researchers and institutions about causes of diabetes as well as prevention and management.
After earning his medical degree in 2009, Dr. Kissell completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut in 2013. He next completed his fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and clinical nutrition at Oregon Health & Science University in 2015. Dr. Kissel is fluent in Spanish.
In 2017, the 10,000 square foot Diabetes & Endocrine Center became the first facility in Monterey County to house both pediatric and adult diabetes centers. Offering medical care, diabetes and nutrition education and social services support, the Diabetes & Endocrine Center alleviates the need for patients to travel to the Bay Area for specialized care.
