Justin B. Swan, MD

About the provider

A close-knit family involved in education and healthcare influenced Dr. Justin Swan’s early life in West Virginia and it had a huge impact on his decision to become a physician. The son of a veterinarian, he watched his father perform orthopedic procedures on animals and that aspect of medicine just clicked with him. Even before he was accepted to medical school, he knew that it would be the focus of his career.

He finds orthopedics especially gratifying in that he can physically see, and be a part of, a patient’s recovery after an injury. He earned his medical degree from the Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia in 2003 and completed his residency at Stanford University Medical Center in California. He furthered his medical training with a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Swan is a longtime mountain biker, runner, tennis player and general outdoor sports enthusiast. He and his family moved to Salinas after his residency and he continues to appreciate the area’s beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities.
