About the provider
Celina Trujillo, PNP, provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents with diabetes and other endocrine conditions. In addition, she trains nurse practitioner students doing clinical rotations in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology.
Trujillo serves as a liaison between the Salinas Valley Health Diabetes and Endocrine Center and the Madison Pediatric Diabetes Clinic at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
Trujillo was instrumental in helping establish a Specialty Care Center at the Salinas Valley Health Diabetes and Endocrine Center. The Center provides a full range of pediatric diabetes and endocrine care for children insured by California’s Children Services meaning families can receive high-quality specialty care services locally without having to travel long distances.
Working to support future healthcare leaders, Trujillo is an assistant adjunct professor of in the department of Family Healthcare Nursing at UCSF School of Nursing and has contributed to numerous publications. She serves on the Health Care Professionals Advisory Board for Diabetes Youth Families, and provides regular continuing education and mentorship to colleagues working in low-resource settings in Liberia, Malawi, and Rwanda.
Her current research focuses on designing interventions at different levels of the healthcare system to increase access to diabetes care services in sub-Saharan Africa. In summer 2024, Trujillo also traveled to Rwanda to help with a pilot project for the first camp in the nation for individuals with type 1 diabetes. She has plans to complete a PhD and to continue her research in emerging diabetes topics with a focus on health equity.
