About the provider
Dr. Allen Hershey is a third generation doctor who was inspired to follow his father and grandfather into the medical profession. He feels privileged to be able to help people who come to him with painful bone and joint conditions. He earned his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland in 1989 after graduating with a BS degree in Pharmacy from Oregon State University, Corvallis. After graduating, he completed his 5 year Orthopedic residency at Oregon Health Sciences University.
He continued his training with a Lower Extremity Reconstruction Fellowship at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, La Jolla, California. Board certified by and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Hershey uses the latest surgical techniques and treatments, including computer navigated total knee and hip replacement. He has a history of leadership at Salinas Valley Memorial including as past Chair of the Department of Surgery and Chair of the Surgery Executive Committee.
Born in Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Hershey moved to Salinas when he was a young child. He lived here until 1976, when he went away to college. After he completed his doctorate, Dr. Hershey returned to Salinas where he resides with his wife Susan. They have 2 grown children. In his leisure time he enjoys bicycling and hiking.
