Peer Partner Support Program

Purpose: Peer Partner Support Program is a confidential program that pairs you with a partner provider in our system, to help support you through difficult work events or life circumstances.
Peer Partners provide SVH providers with confidential, compassionate, and practical support and resources for the clinical, professional, and personal challenges that life can bring.
WHAT DO PEER PARTNERS DO?
Peer Partners will set up 1-2 meetings virtually or face-to-face depending on your preference. We can listen, offer perspective, provide resources and help you identify options. The Peer Partner Support Program gives providers an opportunity to feel heard without judgement and provide understanding of circumstances in a way that family or friends may not. Peer Partners can also talk to you about other resources for provider wellbeing that are available within Salinas Valley Health as well as externally.
WHO ARE THE PEER PARTNERS?
For our program, Salinas Valley Health physicians from seven specialties have been trained in peer support and are volunteering their time. You may be paired with someone from your specialty or another specialty, depending on your preference. Talking to someone with a different viewpoint can be very helpful during stressful times.
WHY PEER PARTNER SUPPORT?
Some examples of when to reach out include:
  • Distress over difficult patient care events
  • Career stressors
  • Workplace conflicts
  • Burnout
  • Home and work life balance struggles
  • Personal or family concerns
WHAT IF I’M WORRIED ABOUT A COLLEAGUE?
Thank you for caring about your colleague! Please tell them that you are concerned and let them know about the Peer Partner Support Program. We believe it is best if individuals self-refer.
HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS CONFIDENTIAL?
Only the Wellbeing Director and the Peer Partner see referrals to the Peer Partner Support Program. Conversation details are only known by the Peer Partner and are not documented. We are independent and separate from Medical Executive Committee (MEC), Medical Staff Executive Committee (MSEC) or Medical Society. Peer Partners maintain complete confidentiality.

ARE THERE ANY LIMITS TO CONFIDENTIALITY?

We are 100% dedicated to maintaining confidentiality at all times. However, in the event information provided to us causes concern for self-harm or harm to others, substance use putting patients at risk, disclosure of abuse or neglect, or complaints of discrimination or sexual harassment, we want to support you as a Peer Partner and may need to involve external resources to best support you.
